Villa Celeste is set on a privilege area on the north-west side of the island 24 km from Tinos main town, very close to the well-known Pyrgos village and next to the museum of marble crafts. Pyrgos is fascinating with the unique marble creations of the local artists (marble-lined streets, temples and chandeliers in churches, doors and lintels, fountains, funerary monuments, etc.). The settlement experienced economic and artistic acne in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Thanks to shipping, trade and, above all, the exploitation of the marbles of the area. It is named after a Venetian tower, mentioned in 16th century documents. Among the great artists are Dimitrios Philippotis, Giannoulis Xalepas and Nikiforos Lytras. There is also a School of Fine Arts for those who wish to continue the region’s admirable artistic tradition.
